  • Since January, several regions of Peru have continued to experience intense rains associated with the coastal El?Niño, which have triggered widespread floods, landslides, and river overflows. The hardest-hit areas are Ayacucho, Piura, Tumbes and Lambayeque.
  • According to UN?OCHA, the death toll has risen to 58 people, and roughly 40?000 individuals have been affected. National authorities have declared a state of emergency for 283 districts across 20 regions.
  • The Armed Forces have been deployed to the affected zones to provide assistance, clear debris, repair roads and install temporary shelters.
  • For the next 48?hours, moderate to locally heavy rainfall is expected across most parts of the country.
