Updates on volcanic activity (Smithsonian)

The Smithsonian/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report provides information about global volcanism on a weekly basis. Latest Fuego report has been published on 30 Jul 2026 10:15.
The Instituto Nacional de Sismolog?a, Vulcanologia, Meteorologia e Hidrolog?a (INSIVUMEH) reported that eruptive activity at Fuego continued during 22-29 July. Daily Strombolian explosions recorded by the seismic network, at rates of 5-11 per hour when reported, generated gas-and-ash plumes that rose as high as 1.1 km above the summit and drifted as far as 40 km SW, W, and NW. Rumbling sounds, shock waves, and/or sounds associated with explosions were reported daily. Explosions occasionally ejected incandescent material as high as 300 m above the summit and onto the flanks, causing incandescent block avalanches to descend the flanks; notably avalanches descended the Seca (W), Taniluy? (SSW), Ceniza (SSW), Trinidad (SSW), Las Lajas (SE), and Honda drainages, sometimes reaching vegetated areas.
