  • A new tropical storm has formed over the Coral Sea and is moving south-westwards. On 9 February, at 0.00 UTC, its centre was about 40 km west of Tanna island (Tafea Province, southern Vanuatu), and about 215 km north-east of Lifou Island (Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia), with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h.
  • ELEVEN is expected to strengthen as it continues south-west, towards the Loyalty Islands. It is forecast to make landfall over Maré Island (Loyalty Islands), in the early morning of 10 February, with maximum sustained winds up to 95 km/h. After that ELEVEN is forecast to strengthen to a tropical cyclone, while it passes south of New Caledonia. 
  • All commercial, public and school activities have been suspended as of 9 February over the Loyalty Islands and the Southern Province of New Caledonia.
  • Heavy rainfall, strong winds and high waves are expected on 9-10 February over Shefa and Tafea Provinces (Vanuatu), and from 9 February over the Loyalty Islands and the Southern Province of New Caledonia.

  • After passing close to the islands in Tafea Province (southern Vanuatu), tropical cyclone DOVI is moving south-westwards over the Coral Sea, approaching Loyalty Islands (New Caledonia). On 10 February at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located about 50 km north of Maré Island (Loyalty Island), with maximum sustained winds of 102 km/h.
  • Media report that flooding due to heavy rainfall and river overflow has been affecting several islands in Vanuatu, displacing a number of people. In New Caledonia, several accommodation centres are operational across the Provinces of the Loyalty Islands, North and South, while all commercial, public and school activities remain suspended. 
  • DOVI is forecast to strengthen as it first passes south of Maré Island (Loyalty Island) and then between the Isle of Pines and the south of Grande Terre in the morning of 10 February, with maximum sustained winds between 100-110 km/h.
  • In New Caledonia, a level 2 hurricane alert was issued for the Provinces of the Loyalty Islands and Southern. On 10-11 February, heavy rainfall strong winds, and high waves are forecast for New Caledonia, while heavy rainfall will continue on 10 February over southern Vanuatu Islands.

  • Tropical cyclone DOVI passed close to the southern coast of New Caledonia and is moving southward over the southeastern Coral Sea.  On 11 February at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located about 175 km south of Nouméa City (the main city, southern New Caledonia), with maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h, as reported by Meteo France New Caledonia.  
  • According to media reports evacuation shelters have been opened in Boulouparis, Bourail, Canala, Dumbea, Farino, Houailou, L'Ile des Pins, La Foa, Lifou, Mare, Moindou, and Noumea. In addition, water supply disruptions have been affecting the areas of Auteuil, La Couvelee, Koe and Koghis.
  • DOVI is forecast to move southward on 10-12 February. After that, on the late morning of 12 February it will turn southwest over northern New Zealand, weakening.
  • For the next 24 hours, heavy rain and strong winds are forecast over most parts of southern New Caledonia. Moderate to heavy rain is expected across the Loyalty Islands.
