  • A new tropical cyclone named EWINIAR ("Aghon" in the Philippines) formed over the southern Philippine Sea on 24 May and started moving north-west toward central Philippines. It passed over Visayas Islands and southern Luzon Island on 25-26 May as a tropical cyclone. On 27 May at 0.00 UTC its centre was located over the Philippine Sea, just east of the coast of central Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 167 km/h.
  • ADINET reports, as of 27 May, more than 5,300 displaced people and a total of 19,373 affected people across the Philippines. On the forecast track it is expected to continue moving northeastward offshore on 28-31 May, strenghtening, toward southern Japan, but remaining far off the coast of Japan.
  • Over the next 48 hours, heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge are forecasted over Visayas Islands and Luzon Island.

  • Tropical cyclone EWINIAR ("Aghon" in the Philippines) continued northeastward over the northern Philippine Sea, east of the Ryukyu Islands, southern Japan on 28 May, with maximum sustained winds of 139 km/h. On 29 May at 6.00 UTC, EWINIAR's centre was located over the sea approximately 600 km south of the Kyushu Island, southern Japan, with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h.
  • Its passage over central and central-northern Philippines resulted in casualties and damage. Media reports, as of 29 May, seven fatalities, of which six in Quezon, Calabarzon region and one more in Misamis Oriental, Northern Mindanao region. In addition, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Disaster Response Operations and Monitoring Information Centre (DROMIC) reports approximately 19,500 displaced people (of which 15,175 in 192 evacuation centres) and more than 51,000 affected people across nine regions.
  • EWINIAR is expected to dwindle into a tropical storm on 29-31 May, remaining well off the coast of southern and central Japan. 
  • Over the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall and strong winds and are still forecasted over central and northern Philippines, and the Ryukyu Islands and Kyushu Island in Japan.
