Japan - Tropical storm LINGLING (ECHO 27 Aug 2025)Fri, 22 Aug 2025 10:16

  • A new tropical storm named LINGLING formed over the northern Philippine Sea on 19 August and started moving north toward southern Japan as a tropical depression and tropical storm. It made landfall over the coast of south-western Kyushu island on 21 August after 6.00 UTC, with maximum sustained winds up to 83 km/h (tropical storm). On 22 August at 3.00 UTC, its centre was located offshore between the Kyushu island and the Shikoku island, with maximum sustained winds of 46 km/h (tropical depression).   
  • Its passage over the Kyushu island caused heavy rainfall, floods and landslides. National authorities issued several evacuation orders over the affected area.
  • On the forecast track, LINGLING is expected to continue moving eastward just south of the Honshu island (the main island of the country), further weakening and dissipating on 23 August.
  • Over the next 48 hours heavy rainfall is still forecast over Kyushu island and Shikoku island.
