  • A new tropical cyclone named FENGSHEN ("Ramil" in the Philippines) formed over the central Philippine Sea on 18 September at 0.00 UTC. It made landfall on southern Catanduanes Island, in the Bicol region of Luzon, on 18 October at 12.00 as a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h, and on 18 -19 October it moved northwest across Luzon. On 20 October at 0.00, its centre was located offshore, approximately 390 km west of northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 80 km/h.
  • The passage of FENGSHEN over the central Philippines caused heavy rainfall, strong winds, floods, and landslides. As of 20 October, ADINet reports seven fatalities, one missing person, two injured, 13,710 displaced people across 166 evacuation centres, and a total of 133,196 affected people, as well as 68 damaged or destroyed houses.
  • FENGSHEN is expected to move westward, strengthening to a typhoon over the South China Sea, and make landfall in Vien Nam on 24 October as a tropical depression.
  • Over the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast over central and northern Philippines.

  • On 20 October, tropical cyclone FENGSHEN (named "Ramil" in the Philippines) continued westward over the South China Sea as a tropical storm. On 21 October at 0:00 UTC, its centre was located over the sea, approximately 450 km north-east of the central coast of Viet Nam and 240 km south-east of Hainan island, far southern China, with maximum sustained winds of 83 km/h (tropical storm).
  • The passage of FENGSHEN over the Philippines caused heavy rainfall, strong winds, floods, and landslides. According to NDRRMC, as of 21 October, the death toll stands at seven fatalities. The same source also reports over 25,000 displaced people and nearly 245,000 affected people.
  • FENGSHEN is expected to make its second landfall over the area of the Tam Ky city, the capital of the Quang Nam province, central coastal Viet Nam on the afternoon of 22 October, with maximum sustained winds of up to 65 km/h (tropical storm). After that, it is forecast to reach the far southern Laos on the morning of 23 October as a tropical depression.
  • Over the next 72 hours, very heavy rainfall is forecast over the whole of Viet Nam and Hainan island, China.

  • On 21 October, tropical storm FENGSHEN continued southwestward over the South China Sea, slightly weakening. On 22 October at 0:00 UTC, its centre was located offshore, approximately 390 km north-east of the central coast of Viet Nam, with maximum sustained winds of 83 km/h.
  • According to media, as of 22 October, its passage over central Philippines resulted in eight fatalities and three injured persons. In addition, NDRRMC reports over 10,350 currently displaced people and nearly 311,750 affected people.
  • FENGSHEN is expected to make landfall over the area of the Hoi An city, northern Quang Nam province, central coastal Viet Nam late in the morning of 23 October, with maximum sustained winds of 56 km/h (tropical depression). After that, it is forecast to reach southern Laos on early in the morning of 24 October as a tropical depression.
  • Over the next 96 hours, very heavy rainfall is forecast over the whole of Viet Nam and Hainan island, China. Very heavy rainfall is also forecast over southern Laos starting from 23 October.

  • Tropical Depression FENGSHEN is moving southwest and approaching the central-eastern coast of Vietnam. As of 23 October, 00:00 (UTC)  its centre was located approximately 30 km northeast of Hoi An City (Quang Nam Province) with maximum sustained winds of 46 km/h (tropical depression).
  • Its passage over central-northern Philippines on 18-19 October resulted in seven fatalities, two missing, one injured person and more than 330,000 affected people across six regions of the country, according to national authorities. In Vietnam, according to the national government, more than 60,000 people have been preventively evacuated and several flights have been cancelled.
  • FENGSHEN is forecast to move southwest, inland over central Vietnam, weakening and dissipating by 24 October across southern Laos.
  • From 23-25 October, moderate to heavy rain and strong winds are expected over central-southern Vietnam - particularly over Quang Tri Province, Da Nang City, and Quang Ngai Province - southern Laos and most of Cambodia. Moderate rain is also forecast across most of the Philippines.
  • Flash flood and landslide warnings are in effect for Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang and Quang Ngai.

  • Tropical Depression FENGSHEN made landfall southeast of Da Nang city, in the central-eastern coast of Viet Nam, in the morning (UTC) of 24 October, with maximum sustained wind of 37 km/h and dissipated inland.
  • According to media reports, as of 24 October, following the FENGSHEN passage over Vietnam, at least 1,600 people have been evacuated in the area of Da Nang city. Several landslides blocked some main roads, and flight disruptions have been recorded across central Viet Nam. Severe weather was observed in Quang Tri, Da Nang, Quang Ngai provinces, and Ho Chi Minh city, where one person died due to flooding, and 696 people and 174 houses have been affected.
  • In the Philippines, the death toll stands at seven, two people are still missing, and 8,089 people have been displaced in 135 evacuation centres.
  • On 24-25 October, intense rainfall and strong winds are expected over central and southern Vietnam, and moderate rainfall is expected over the Philippines.
