  • Wildfires are ravaging the southeastern state of Sao Paulo, killing two people and disrupting traffic on a dozen of highways. 800 people were evacuated.
  • A crisis cabinet has been set up by the São Paulo state government, which has decreed a state of emergency in 45 municipalities and has put 48 Brazilian cities on high alert. In addition, at least 7,300 government workers and volunteers, plus a military aircraft have been deployed.
  • Brazil has been hit by a series of extreme weather events, such as a massive wildfire in the Pantanal wetlands in June and a record number of fires in the Amazon rainforest in July, confirming that this year's wildfire season started earlier and is more intense than in previous years.
