  • Wildfires continue to impact northern Portugal, resulting in casualties, evacuations, and damage.
  • According to the Autoridade Nacional de Emergência e Proteção Civil (ANEPC), four active fires are currently burning: one near Viana do Castelo, two in the Braga area, and another in Vila Real.
  • As of 3 August, 113 fires occurred, 104 fires were suppressed within 90 minutes, 9 resolved after 90 minutes, and one remained active. 
  • Media reports indicate that in the fires of the previous week, 19 people have been injured, and dozens of residents have been evacuated across the districts of Ponte da Barca, Aveiro, and Porto. A total of 1,800 firefighters have been deployed to the affected areas.
  • On 29 July, the Copernicus Emergency Management Service () was activated in rapid mapping mode to provide fire extent analysis and monitoring in Arouca and Ponte da Barca. Nine mapping products have been produced so far.
  • Between 3 and 7 August , the government issued a state of alert for the whole continental area. The operational structure for fighting forest fires will be strengthened during this time, and extraordinary protection and prevention measures will be put into place.
  • Over the next 48 hours, according to the European Forest Fire Information System (JRC EFFIS), the fire danger forecast is expected to range from high to extreme in the affected areas and from very high to locally very extreme in southern Portugal.
