  • The fire that broke out on the afternoon of 5 August in the Ribaute municipality (Aude department, southern France) continues to spread, covering an area of over 16,000 hectares across 15 municipalities.
  • As of 6 August at 17:00 UTC, according to the Prefecture of Aude, one person has died, and three others are unaccounted for. Additionally, 13 people have been injured (two civilians and 11 firefighters), one of whom is in critical condition.
  • National authorities are providing assistance to those affected, having established 17 temporary centres capable of accommodating nearly 1,800 people across 17 municipalities. Residents have been advised to remain indoors unless ordered to evacuate by firefighters.
  • A total of nearly 2,100 firefighters, 500 vehicles, Canadair aircraft, and helicopters have been deployed to the impacted area.
  • According to the European Forest Fire Information System (JRC EFFIS), the fire danger forecast for 6–7 August is expected to range from moderate to extreme in the affected region.
