  • Since 9 August, wildfires have been affecting the intermunicipal community of Beiras e Serra da Estrela, northeastern Portugal, causing injuries and damage. The biggest fires are reported in Trancoso e Freches, Covilhã and Sobral de São Miguel.
  • On 11 August, 104 fires occurred, 100 fires were suppressed within 90 minutes and four resolved after 90 minutes. Three occurrences that started between 2 and 10 August are still ongoing as of 12 August. According to the European Forest Fire Information System (JRC EFFIS), more than 5,150 ha have burned in Trancoso and 1,070 ha in Sobral de São Miguel.
  • Media report as of 11 August, 17 injured people. The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) and media further report the deployment of 2,000 firefighters and 660 fire engines across the country, with more than 1,000 firefighters in northern Beiras and Serra da Estrela regions alone.
  • On 11 August, the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMS) has been activated in rapid mapping mode () to provide the fire delineation extent and monitoring for Fregues in Beiras e Serra da Estrela. 
  • Over the next 48 hours, according to JRC EFFIS, the fire danger forecast is expected to be from high to very extreme across the east of Portugal, including for the already affected areas.
