  • Since 16 February, Botswana has been experiencing widespread floods caused by heavy rainfall which resulted in an increasing number of casualties and damage.
  • According to UNICEF, seven people died and one person is still missing. Additionally, 1,749 people have been sheltered, and almost 3,000 people have been affected across the country.
  • UNICEF and Botswana Red Cross Society are providing help to the affected population.
  • On 24 and 25 February, moderate to locally heavy rainfall is expected across northern, central and south-eastern Botswana.

Botswana - Floods, update
  • Widespread flooding is affecting Botswana since 16 February, and has led to an increasing humanitarian impact.
  • According to media, as of 26 February, nine people died, including six children. Approximately 2,000 people have been displaced and more than 5,000 people have been affected across the country.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall is expected across northern, western and southern Botswana.
