  • Over the last few days, heavy rains causing river overflows, floods, and landslides have been affecting the Rio Grande do Sul region in southern Brazil, resulting in fatalities, displacement, and significant damage.
  • According to media reports as at 19 June, two people have been killed, one person remains missing, and over 2,600 individuals have been displaced and sheltered in government-established shelters. Damaged roads and bridges across the region, along with blackouts and school closures in Canoas, have been reported.
  • On 20-21 June, more rain with isolated heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected across the Rio Grande do Sul region, while 22 June brings only isolated moderate rain. The National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) has issued an orange alert for Rio Grande do Sul for rain and strong winds on 18 June, which remains active until the morning of 20 June, 10:00 am local time.
