  • A new tropical cyclone, named CO-MAY (Emong in the Philippines), formed over the eastern South China Sea,  in north-western Philippines, in the morning (UTC) of 23 July and started moving south-west until 18 UTC, turning south-east and then back to southwest to northeast, in the night (UTC) of 24 July, strenghtening. On 24 July at 0.00, its centre was located offshore approximately 125 km west of the coast of Luzon island, with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h (typhoon).
  • CO-MAY is expected to intensify moving northeast on 24 July, making landfall over La Union, in Luzon, in the night between 24 and 25 July, and then weakening to tropical storm on 25 July.
  • The Philippines has been affected by tropical cyclone activity in recent days, and the combined effect of Tropical Cyclone CO-MAY, WIPHA, FRANCISCO and the Southwest Monsoon caused 12 fatalities, eight missing people, and eight injured people. In addition, at least  245,479 people have been displaced, with 147,521 in 1,117 evacuation centres, and  2,733,649 affected people.
  • Following the passage of Tropical Cyclone WIPHA, in Viet Nam, according to media, three people have died, and one is missing. In Laos, evacuations and road damage due to severe floods have been reported.
  • Over the next 48 hours, very heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected across most of northern Philippines. Extreme flood warnings have been issued for the same area.
