  • Heavy rainfall continued to affect northern China (in particular the Inner Mongolia autonomous region) since 16 August, causing floods and flash floods that have resulted in more casualties and damage.
  • Media report, as of 20 August, 13 fatalities (of whom 10 in the Bayannur city area and three more in the Ordos city area), five still missing people (three in Ordos and two more in Bayannur), and one rescued person in Bayannur (both cities in south-western Inner Mongolia autonomous region). Rescue personnel have been promptly deployed by national and local authorities.
  • Over the next 48 hours, according to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), more rainfall is still forecast over the central and northern Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
