  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting eastern Bolivia - particularly the Santa Cruz department - since 12 December, causing severe floods, rivers to overflow and triggering landslides that have resulted in casualties and widespread damage.
  • Media report, as of 16 December, 20 fatalities, ten missing persons, 281 evacuated, 385 assisted people and approximately 2,100 affected families across the eastern Santa Cruz department, where the most affected are El Torno, La Guardia and Cotoca municipalities.
  • The Copernicus Emergency Management Service, EMS was activated in rapid mapping mode () on the very early morning UTC of 16 December.
  • Over the next 36 hours, more rainfall with locally heavy rainfall is still forecast over most of the country, including the already affected Santa Cruz Department.
