  • From 20–21 December, heavy rains and resultant flooding affected several departments in southern France, including Gard, Ardèche, and Lozère, causing casualties and widespread damage. 
  • As of 21 December, media reports confirm that one person was injured and rescued after being trapped in the car in a flooded stream in Octon (Hérault), while in Montpellier (Hérault), one person sustained minor injuries due to a falling tree. In Gard’s Laroque, two individuals were rescued after their vehicle became trapped in floodwaters. Several major roads were closed due to flooding. 
  • Over the next 48 hours, additional rain and thunderstorms – including hail – are forecast for southeastern France, particularly in the Occitanie and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regions. Authorities have issued an orange alert for Ardèche, Lozère, Aveyron, Tarn, Hérault, and Var, warning of heavy rain, flooding, and localized snow and ice.
