  • Very strong winds, tornadoes, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and heavy hailstorms affected the northern Midwest region (mainly the Indiana and Illinois states) and the southern USA (in particular the state of Texas) over the period from 8 to 11 March, causing several strong wind-related incidents and floods that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • In Indiana, media reports as of 12 March, five fatalities, two of whom were in the Lake Village area (Newton county) due to a tornado and three more in Jackson county due to floods. In addition, media also reports one still missing person across Martin county and several injured people and several destroyed houses across the state. In Illinois, seven injured people, several damaged houses and approximately 7 400 power outages were reported across Kankakee county due to a tornado.
  • Over the next 48 hours, rainfall and hailstorms are still forecast over the central and northern Indiana and Illinois states.

  • Heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges continued to affect the Hawaiian islands (central North Pacific Ocean) over the last week, causing severe floods, flash floods and overflowing rivers that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • Media report, as of 23 March, one person missing and a number of evacuation orders (with some shelters in place) across the Maui island (central Hawaii). In addition, media also report some injured people, approximately 5 500 evacuated people or people under evacuation orders and 230 rescued people across the Oahu island (the most populous island of the archipelago in northern Hawaii), including the Honolulu capital city area. More than 2 000 power outages were reported across both the aforementioned affected islands.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall is still forecast over the central and southern Hawaiian islands.
