  • An earthquake of 6.3 M at a depth of 10 km occurred in Valle del Cauca Department, west-central Colombia on 8 June at 13.08 UTC (8.08 local time). The epicentre was located approximately 16 km northwest of Paratebueno municipality in the department of Cundinamarca, and approximately 100 km east of the capital of Colombia, Bogotà city.
  • Four aftershocks with a magnitude between 4.9 M and 4.5 M have been registered in the same area.
  • USGS PAGER reports that up to 1,000 people were exposed to severe shaking, 11,000 people to very strong shaking and 79,000 to strong shaking.
  • According to media, as of 9 June, at least four people have been injured, and several houses and structures have been damaged across Paratebueno and Villavicencio municipalities.

  • The humanitarian impact has increased following the 6.3 M earthquake that struck the Valle del Cauca Department in west-central Colombia on 8 June.
  • The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) reports that six people have been injured, more than 500 people have been affected, 174 houses have collapsed, and 362 others have been damaged by the seismic event in the municipalities of Paratebueno and Medina.
