  • A new tropical cyclone named HAMOON formed in the Bay of Bengal is moving northeastwards. On 24 October at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located over the Sea, 240 km south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal), 280 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and 410 km southwest of Chittagong (Bangladesh), with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h.
  • HAMOON is forecast to continue moving northeast and it could make landfall over the coast of Bangladesh between Khepupara and Chittagong on 25 October in the late morning as a tropical storm.
  • For the next 48 hours, very heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecast over north-eastern India, south-eastern Bangladesh and western Myanmar.

  • Tropical cyclone HAMOON made landfall over the southeastern coast of Bangladesh on the night of 24-25 October as tropical storm. On 25 October at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located about 40 km east-southeast of Chittagong City, with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h.
  • According to media, as of 25 October, three fatalities and at least six injured people have been reported in Cox's Bazar City, with 1.5 million people impacted. Nearly 273,000 people have been evacuated.
  • Cox’s Bazar District is experiencing serious communication disruption, preventing access to real-time information, particularly in rural areas and refugees’ camps. In refugees’ camps and adjacent host communities, Disaster Management Committees and Cyclone Preparedness Programme have been activated.
  • Contingency stocks have been made available, volunteer first responders are on standby, preparedness messages have been disseminated. In collaboration with local authorities, some relocations inside camps have taken place and landslides incidents have already been reported.
