  • Wildfires have been affecting the Province of Nova Scotia in eastern Canada, resulting in evacuations and damage.
  • Two main wildfires have been reported by the Government of Nova Scotia, one in Barrington Lake (Shelburne County) that is burning almost 10,000 ha and another in Tantallon Municipality (close to Halifax City) with 788 ha of burned are out of control.
  • Media report, more than 16,000 evacuated people and at least 200 houses or structures have been destroyed in the areas of Hammonds Plains, Upper Tantallon and Pockwock, close to Halifax City.  Forest fires also impacted the Province of New Brunswick (west of Nova Scotia Province) over the past few days and led to evacuations of about 400 homes.
  • Over the next 24 hours, according to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS) the fire danger forecast is expected to be from low to moderate across the affected areas.
