  • A number of wildfires have been affecting southern China, in particular the Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces since 15 March, causing casualties and widespread damage.
  • Media report, as of 18 March, four fatalities in the Yunnan Province, of whom three in the Lincang City area and one more in the Wenshan City. Media also report one injured person in the Lincang City area. In addition, approximately 4,900 evacuated people were reported across the Yajiang County, Sichuan Province.
  • As of 18 March, according to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS), the total burnt area across the aforementioned Yajiang County is more than 10,000 ha.
  • Over the next 24 hours, according to the JRC GWIS, the fire danger forecast is from high to very extreme over the Yunnan Province while better conditions are forecast over the Sichuan Province.
