Greece - Wildfire (ECHO 22 Jun 2025)

A wildfire has been burning near Ano Souli village in Attica region, north-eastern of the capital Athens, since 16 June, prompting evacuation.
As of 17 June, media report that residents from Ano Souli and Marathonas have been evacuated. Two messages were sent from the Unit of European emergency number (112) regarding the wildfire. The first one was to inform the citizens about the wildfire outbreak and the second one was for preventive evacuation of the areas of Ano Souli and Mararthonas.
National authorities have deployed 140 firefighters and 18 aircraft and the fire is partially contained.
Over the next 48 hours, according to the European Forest Fire Information System (JRC-EFFIS) the fire danger forecast is expected to be from very high to extreme in the affected area.
