Mexico - Tropical cyclone FIVE-E (ECHO 22 Jun 2025)

A new tropical cyclone named FIVE-E formed over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean on 16 June and started moving northwestward over the Ocean as a tropical depression, strengthening to tropical storm on 17 June and developing to hurricane on 18 June according to forecasts. On 17 June at 3.00 UTC, its centre was located offshore approximately 350 km south of the coast of Tapachula city in the state of Chapas in southern Mexico, with maximum sustained winds of 56 km/h.
FIVE-E is forecast to continue northwestward over the Ocean, strengthening, along the coast of southern and western Mexico, and to make landfall in the night between the 19 and 20 June with maximum sustained winds of 148 km/h (hurricane cat.1).
A hurricane watch has been issued from Bahia De Huatulco to Punta Maldonado and tropical storm watches from Salina Cruz to Bahia De Huatulco between Oaxaca and Guerrero states.
Over the next 72 hours, heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecast over coastal areas of south-western Mexico.
