China - Landslide (ECHO 17 Nov 2025)
Pubdate:

On 10–11 November, a landslide in Sichuan province, Southwestern China, caused damage to the Hongqi Bridge section of National Highway 317 in Maerkang city.
According to media, as of 11 November, the bridge, which connects the centre of China to the Tibet region, partially collapsed on 11 November following slope instability, a landslide, and the failure of the underlying roadbed.
Authorities had already evacuated the area as a precaution after detecting early warning signs on 10 November. The highway remains closed, with detours in place, though the duration of the closure is still unclear.
Over the next 48 hours, isolated light rain is expected in the eastern part of Southwestern China.
