Somalia - Floods (ECHO 02 May 2026)
Pubdate:
4/30/2026 9:34:15 AM
On 25 – 26 April, Banadir region in south-eastern Somalia experienced heavy rainfall that caused widespread flooding and disproportionately affected low-lying IDP settlements in Dayniile District.
According to UNHCR, more than 4 000 people, the majority of whom are children, were displaced by the flood events. This includes households who were already forced to displace by conflicts in Middle Shabelle and are now displacing again for the second time because of weather extremes. Essential shelters and infrastructure suffered damage.
Shelter and NFIs, food assistance and protection are among the most critical services needed among the newly displaced.
For the next 48 hours, moderate to locally heavy rainfall is forecast over southern and south-eastern Somalia
