Afghanistan - Floods, update (ECHO 02 May 2026)
Pubdate:
4/30/2026 9:34:15 AM
The floods affecting large parts of Afghanistan since 25 March have resulted in casualties and widespread damage.
According to UN OCHA, hundreds of people died and were injured. 60 000 people have been confirmed as in need of assistance, out of the 73 300 initially affected. Floods have also impacted 61 health facilities across five provinces (Kandahar, Zabul, Badghis, Logar and Nangarhar), and several schools have been damaged, in different provinces.
Humanitarian partners are providing assistance to those affected. Of the people identified, 31 100 have so far received humanitarian support. Further to the needs based interventions by partners, ECHO made available an additional EUR 175,000 to support the DREF by IFRC, through which the Afghan Red Cross (ARCS) is providing support for shelter, health and WASH.
Over the next 48 hours, moderate precipitation is in the forecast across northern and north-eastern Afghanistan.
