Brazil - Floods (ECHO 02 May 2026)
Pubdate:

During the past week, heavy rain has battered Ceará in Brazil’s northeast, causing the Coreaú River to flood, and resulting in fatalities, damage, and traffic disruptions.
By 27?April, media reported a fatality in Tianguá after a hotel collapsed and at least one death in Fortaleza when a highway-side crate gave way, sending a car and two motorcycles into the hole. Repair works are under way on the Fortaleza-Aquiraz road, which has suffered additional traffic disruptions and submersions.
The National Institute of Meteorology issued a danger alert for more than 40 Ceará cities, and the municipality of Coreaú declared a state of emergency on 27?April, remaining under attention on 28?April.
Forecasts call for isolated moderate rain over the next 48?hours in the already-affected area, with a yellow alert for heavy rain still in force across northern Brazil as of 29?April.
