China - Earthquake (ECHO 23 May 2026)

A 5.0 M earthquake at a depth of 10 km occurred in northern-central Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in south-eastern China, on 17 May at 16:21 UTC (18 May 00:21 local time). The epicentre was located approximately 24 km north-west of Liuzhou city, of the Liuzhou prefecture-city in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
According to media, as of 18 May, two people died and one person is still missing, and more than 7 000 people have been displaced in the city of Liuzhou. At least 13 building have collapsed and transport disruptions have been reported.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing and a national response has been activated.
