Iran - Floods (ECHO 19 Apr 2024)
Pubdate:
4/19/2024 10:45:40 AM
Heavy rainfall has been affecting southeastern Iran (in particular the Sistan and Baluchistan province, bordering with Pakistan and Afghanistan) causing floods and rivers to overflow (particularly the Sarbaz and Kajo Rivers), resulting in casualties and severe damage. The same region was also affected by severe floods in the month of March after heavy rainfall in late February that affected reportedly over 100,000 individuals.
The worst affected cities and towns across the province are: Kenarak, Zarabad, Chabahar, Nikshahr, Kach and Zohrikar.
Media report, as of 19 April, eight fatalities, an unconfirmed number of flooded houses and approximately 60 closed roads throughout the Sistan and Baluchistan province.
Over the next 72 hours, more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is still forecasted over the already affected province.
DG ECHO partners are present in the affected areas and already providing humanitarian assistance in response to the previous floods.
