The National Hurricane Center has been watching this system struggle to get its act together for days and finally upgraded it late Wednesday night. As of 4 a.m. CDT Thursday, Tropical Depression Four was located about 1,435 miles east of the lesser Antilles and was moving west-northwest at 17 mph. TD 4 had winds of 30 mph.

Two NASA satellites provided a look at the Northwestern Pacific Ocean's latest tropical storm from outside and inside. NASA-NOAA's Suomi NPP satellite provided an outside look at Nanmadol when it's maximum sustained winds peaked, and the GPM Core satellite provided an inside look at the rainfall within the storm.
