Taipei, March 28 (CNA) A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck Yilan County in eastern Taiwan at 6:29 p.m. Wednesday, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) reported shortly after the temblor. The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 23.5 kilometers east southeast of the Yilan County government office at a depth of 70.

Update: 11:41AM A STRONG 6.4 magnitude earthquake was recorded in eastern Indonesia this morning triggering a brief tsunami alert. The Seismology Unit of the Suva-based Mineral Resources department reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 171.5km.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 (Bernama) -- A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale struck the Banda Sea, Indonesia at 4.58pm today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department. A statement from the department said the quake's epicentre was 425km south of Ambon, Indonesia and 1,734km southeast of Semporna, Sabah.

Update: 3:06PM THE Tonga Islands region recorded a 5.3 magnitude earthquake at about 2pm today. The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department based in Suva said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10km. It was located 231km South-southeast from Nuku'alofa, Tonga; 637km South-southwest from Alofi, Niue; and 923km Southeast from Suva.
