(CNN Español) — An earthquake of magnitude 6.5 hit northern Peru and southern Ecuador, according to the Geological Survey (USGS). The earthquake occurred 51 kilometers northwest of Barranca, Peru, USGS reports, and at a depth of 100.3 kilometers. As initially reported by the Geophysical Institute of Ecuador, the earthquake was of magnitude 6.
