Tropical cyclone KONG-REY continued north-west toward South Korea slightly weakening. On 5 October at 0.00 UTC its centre was located 570 km south-west of Cheju Island (South Korea) and it had maximum sustained winds of 102 km/h (tropical storm).
It is expected to continue north-east, passing south-east of Cheju Island on 5 October afternoon UTC and it may reach the coast of Gyeongsangnam province on 6 October early morning still as a tropical storm. Heavy rain, strong winds and storm surge may affect Okinawa archipelago and western Kyushu Island (Japan), Zhejiang and Shanghai (China) over 5-6 October. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued, as of 5 October, a warning for storms, heavy rain and high waves for Okinawa and Kagoshima prefectures.

Tropical cyclone KONG-REY continued moving north-west toward the Okinawa Islands slightly weakening. On 4 October at 0.00 UTC its centre was located 280 km south-east of Miyako Island (Okinawa archipelago, Japan) and it had maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h (typhoon).
It is expected to pass north-east of Miyako Island on 4 October early morning UTC and continue north-west over the East China Sea toward South Korea, still as a typhoon. Heavy rain, strong winds and storm surge may affect Okinawa archipelago over 4-5 October. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a warning for storms, high waves and storm surge for Okinawa and Kagoshima prefectures.

Over the next 24 hours, it is expected to continue north-west toward Okinawa but slightly weakening. Its centre may pass north-east of Miyako Island on 4 October afternoon UTC probably as a typhoon.

Tropical cyclone KONG-REY continued moving north-west toward Okinawa islands. On 2 October at 0.00 UTC, it was located 1 070 km south-east of Miyako island (Okinawa archipelago) and had maximum sustained winds of 259 km/h (very intense typhoon).
Over the next 24 hours, it is expected to continue north-west as a very intense typhoon, possibly following a path similar to the one of tropical cyclone TRAMI.
