GREEN alert: The Kanlaon Volcanic eruption is unlikely to require external humanitarian assistance based on the exposed population and coping capacity.
The Smithsonian/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report provides information about global volcanism on a weekly basis. Latest Kanlaon report has been published on 29 May 2024 08:59. In a special notice for Kanlaon, PHIVOLCS stated that the seismic network detected 24 volcano-tectonic earthquakes during 1335-1630 on 26 May with local magnitudes of 0.8-2.3 and depths of 0-6 km beneath the W flank. Sulfur dioxide gas emissions from the summit crater had been elevated since 1 January, averaging 1,291 tonnes/day (t/d); the most recent measurement was 2,003 t/d, recorded on 26 May. Ground deformation data from continuous GPS and electronic tilt data had been recording inflation at the volcano since March 2022. The Alert Level remained at 1 (on a scale of 0-5) and PHIVOLCS reminded the public to remain outside of the 4-km-radius Permanent Danger Zone.
