  • After the passage of tropical cyclone KOMPASU (named "Maring" in the Philippines) on 11-12 October over northern Luzon and the Babuyan Islands (northern Philippines), the number of casualties has increased.
  • According to the Philippine News Agency (PNA) and the Philippines National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), 19 people died, of which 14 were in Ilocos Sur Province (north-western Luzon), four in Palawan Province (central-western Philippines) and one in Pangasinan Province (central-western Luzon).
  • The number of confirmed missing individuals stands at 13, while up to 7,370 individuals are assisted in 124 evacuation centres. About 194,677 people have been affected and 352 houses have been damaged or destroyed.
  • On 15-16 October, moderate to strong winds and moderate rain with thunderstorms is forecast over north and central Philippines.

  • After passing over Hainan Island (southern China), tropical cyclone KOMPASU has weakened as it entered the Gulf of Tonkin (northwestern South China Sea) and is moving towards northern Vietnam. On 14 October at 0.00, its centre was located about 175 km east of Hoang Mai Town (Nghe An Province,  North Central Coast Region of Vietnam), with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h (tropical storm).
  • According to media reports, one person died and 21 others were injured in Hong Kong, after the passage of KOMPASU across the South China Sea. Authorities suspended classes, government services, flights and railway services across Hainan, Hong Kong and Guangdong.
  • KOMPASU is forecast to make landfall in the morning of 14 October in an area close to Hoang Mai Town. After that, it is expected to weaken to a tropical depression as it moves westwards over northern Vietnam.
  • On 14-16 October, moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms and strong winds are forecast over northern Vietnam, while moderate to heavy rain is forecast over southern China, including Hainan.

  • Tropical cyclone KOMPASU (named "Maring" in the Philippines) is moving westward over the South China Sea toward Hainan Island (China). On 13 October at 0.00 UTC its centre was located offshore approximately 260 km east of the eastern coast of Hainan, with maximum sustained winds of 102 km/h (tropical storm).
  • After its passage over northern Luzon and the Babuyan Islands (northern Philippines), the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet) reports, as of 13 October, 13 fatalities, nine missing, three injured and over 11,500 evacuated people across nearly 100 evacuation centres. ADINet also reports almost 110 houses and 21 bridges damaged. 
  • KOMPASU is forecast to pass over Hainan on the late morning (UTC) of 13 October and it is expected to make landfall over Nghe An Province (central-northern Vietnam) on the late morning (UTC) of 14 October as a tropical storm.
  • Over the next 24 hours, heavy rain, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over Hainan, while moderate rain is forecast over central-northern Vietnam.

  • After passing over Babuyan Islands (northern Philippines), tropical cyclone KOMPASU has entered the South China Sea and on 12 October at 0.00 UTC its centre was located about 145 km north-west of the north-western coast of Luzon (northern Philippines), with maximum sustained winds of 102 km/h (tropical storm).
  • The Philippine News Agency (PNA) reports nine fatalities and 11 missing people in Luzon and Palawan islands due to landslides and floods.
  • According to the Philippines National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), a total of 1,585 individuals were pre-emptively evacuated.
  • KOMPASU is forecast to weaken, as it moves westwards over the South China Sea. It is expected to reach the eastern coast of Hainan Island (southern China), in the midday of 13 October.
  • Several flood warnings and tropical cyclone wind signals No 1 and No 2 have been issued for northern and central Luzon, as moderate to heavy rain and strong winds are expected over the area in the next 24 hours.

  • A new tropical cyclone named KOMPASU (named "Maring" in the Philippines) formed over the northern Philippine Sea on 10 October and started moving west towards northern Luzon. On 11 October at 0.00 UTC its centre was located offshore approximately 215 km east of Santa Ana Town (northern Luzon) and 240 km east of the Babuyan Islands, with maximum sustained winds of 93 km/h (tropical storm).
  • KOMPASU is forecast to pass over the Babuyan Channel in the late morning (UTC) of 11 October, with maximum sustained winds up to 100 km/h. It is expected to continue moving westward over the South China Sea, strengthening, and it is forecast to reach the coast of southern Hainan Island (China) on 13 October.
  • Over the next 24 hours, heavy rain, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over central and northern Luzon as well as over the Babuyan Islands. PAGASA has issued a tropical cyclone wind signal No 1 and No 2 over the mentioned area.
