Bahia, Brazil, November to Early December 2021Parts of Bahia State in northeastern Brazil saw heavy rain from mid-November. As of 09 December at least 5 people have died and hundreds of homes have been damaged by flooding and landslides across the municipalities of Itaberaba, Itamaraju, Jucuruçu, Eunápolis, Teixeira de Freitas and Porto Seguro. Authorities in Itaberaba, Itamaraju and Porto Seguro have declared a local state of emergency. State Governor Rui Costa has promised aid and relief to the victims and has deployed teams from fire, civil defence and military to affected areas. Around 11 December 2 dams broke, flooding areas of Apuarema. As of 13 December, media reported 10 fatalities, 21,570 displaced and at least 220,000 affected. The federal government recognized a state of emergency in 24 municipalities in Bahia, as of 13 December. From early December heavy rain and flooding also affected parts of neighbouring Minas Gerais state, where 2 fatalities were reported, 9,650 people displaced and around 2,000 houses damaged. The governor decreed an emergency situation in 31 cities and municipalities mostly in Jequitinhonha and Mucuri valleys, including the cities of Águas Formosas, Bandeira and Machacalis.Wed 15 Dec 2021FloodList provided by Copernicus GLOFAS
