  • Heavy rainfall, strong wind and thunderstorms affected the Central Plains and the Midwest regions and particularly Iowa on 21 May, causing tornados that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • According to media, as of 23 May, five people died in Greenfield city in Adair county in south-western Iowa and at least 35 have been injured. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reported, as of 22 May, more than 100 destroyed buildings and 14,000 people affected by power outages.
  • For the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms are expected in the central and eastern parts of the United States.

  • For the next 24 hours, drier conditions are expected across the affected city.
