  • An earthquake of 5.5 M at a depth of 8 km occurred in the Adriatic Sea off the coast of north-eastern Marche Region (central-eastern Italy) on 11 November at 6.07 UTC (7.07 local time), as reported by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV). The epicentre was located close to the coast, around 34 km east-northeast of Pesaro City (Marche Region).
  • As of 9 November at 7.15 UTC, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology recorded at least 18 aftershocks of magnitude between 2.0 and 4.0 in the area.
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 5,000 people were exposed to strong shaking and 192,000 to moderate shaking.
  • According to media reports, the seismic event has been felt across most parts of central-northern Italy (particularly in the Marche, Umbria, Lazio and Emili Romagna Regions). Verifications are ongoing for possible damage, the Adriatic railway has been temporarily closed and classes in towns and cities in the area of Ancona have been suspended.
